How to Link an Image
Images can be linked to people and properties. If the image contains people you can identify and link, the people's names MUST BE ENTERED INTO THE DATABASE FIRST. Click HERE to add a PERSON to the database.
- Log in to the website. Only registered and approved users can add or edit information in the database.
- Go to the list of Unreferenced Images. This list can be accessed from the "Volunteer Quick Links" menu that appears on the left side of the screen after you have logged in.
- Select and Image to research. Click on the "Edit" link next to the image to pull up the editing page. The Edit link will only appear when you are logged in.
- Edit the Title. Create a title that includes the address and a brief description of what is in the image. For example, "1030 22nd Street Front View in 1984".
- Check to see if the building is still in existance. Do a search in the Historic Survey database for the address and street number. If it appears there, then search the Polk County Assessor Database to see if it is still the same building.
- Select the applicable Image Galleries. If none apply, select "None". If more than one gallery applies, hold down the Ctrl key and click on each applicable gallery name.
- Edit the Body (include the source). If the name of the file is just an address, then the source is the SHPO site inventory form. If it includes a Greek House name, then the source is the Quax Drake yearbook. If the Quax is the source, include the year and page number.
- Link People and Properties to the image if applicable. To link people and properties to your image, start typing in the appropriate field. Matching nodes will be listed below the field as you type. Select the one you want to link. Click the "Add Another Item" button below the field to add more links.
- Click Save. Your changes are NOT saved until you click "Save".
